OpenMontage: an open-source agentic video production system

OpenMontage calls itself the 'world's first open-source, agentic video production system'. Its GitHub description lists 12 production pipelines and 100+ tools. It had about 68K stars when we pulled the GitHub search API on Oct 14 2026, which puts it near the top of every 'video agent' and 'video generation' query we ran.
We haven't installed it yet. What we can say from the repo: it's positioned as an end-to-end system, where agents orchestrate the whole job from idea to finished video, rather than a single editing or generation skill. That puts it in the same category as HKUDS/ViMax (director, screenwriter and producer agents) and Toonflow, not next to cut-only tools like video-use.
How we'll judge it: setup friction, which model providers it really depends on, cost per finished minute, and whether its pipelines produce something you'd publish or only a demo. Until then, treat the star count as a sign of interest, not of quality.
